Commander, 2D Force Storage Battalion
Lt. Col. Timothy C. Fretwell

Lieutenant Colonel Fretwell is originally from Canton, Missouri. He attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned in March 2005. After completing The Basic School and the Ground Supply Officer Course, he was assigned to 1st Supply Battalion.

In February 2006, Lieutenant Fretwell reported to 1st Supply Battalion, serving in various assignments with the Supply Management Unit and as the Battalion Supply Officer. From July 2006 to March 2007, he deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq as a Provisional Rifle Platoon Commander. Subsequently, from January 2008 to January 2009, Lieutenant Fretwell deployed to Tikrit, Iraq as the Logistics Advisor embedded within the 2d Region Iraqi Border Police.

In April 2009, Captain Fretwell reported to 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, serving as the Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 (MWHS-3) Supply Officer. From October 2010 to February 2011, Captain Fretwell deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan as the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) Ground Supply Officer.

In March 2011, Captain Fretwell reported to Naval Postgraduate School for Foreign Area Officer (FAO) education. Completing his language and academic studies in 2013, Captain Fretwell reported to the Joint United States Military Advisory Group-Thailand (JUSMAGTHAI), where he conducted independent travel and research throughout Southeast Asia and completed advanced Thai language training. During his time in Southeast Asia, he supported exercises Keris Strike, Hanuman Guardian, and Cobra Gold.

In September 2014, Captain Fretwell reported to 3d Supply Battalion, serving as the Operations Officer and deploying to the Republic of Korea in support of Combined/Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore 2015. Upon promotion, Major Fretwell also served as the Supply Management Unit Officer-in-Charge and Battalion Executive Officer. During this time, the Supply Management Unit received the 2015 Department of Defense Award for Supply Chain Excellence, and Major Fretwell won the 2016 USMC Logistics Innovation Challenge.

In August 2017, Major Fretwell reported to Education Command to serve as an Education Officer on the Marine Corps University faculty. From July 2019 to February 2020, Major Fretwell augmented USCENTCOM, serving as the Joint Operation Center’s Maritime and Air Watch Officer. Upon selection to lieutenant colonel, he was assigned as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4 Logistics for the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan.

Lieutenant Colonel Fretwell holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Culver-Stockton College, a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, a Master of Arts in Security Studies from Naval Postgraduate School, and both a Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management and Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California.

Lieutenant Colonel Fretwell’s military schools include the Ground Supply Officer Course, Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Officer Course, Security Cooperation Planners Course, Defense Language Institute Thai Language Degree, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, Combat Advisor Course, Advanced Military Transition Team Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, and USMC Command and Staff College.

Lieutenant Colonel Fretwell’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
