First Sergeant Justin M. Nail assumed duties as senior enlisted advisor, Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Logistics Command, in May 2024.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December 2007 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. He attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, where he graduated as the honor graduate, and was assigned the military occupational specialty of helicopter tilt rotor dynamic components mechanic (6132). He completed MOS training in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
In July 2008, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, where he served until June 2016. He was promoted to lance corporal, corporal, sergeant, and staff sergeant during this assignment.
His deployments included two rotations with HMH-163 (REIN) on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2008 and 2010, and with VMM-165 as part of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force–Kuwait in 2015. His billets included collateral duty inspector, work center supervisor, quality assurance representative, production control chief, and maintenance chief.
In October 2016, he reported to Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation in December 2016, he was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, where he completed eight training cycles.
He was promoted to gunnery sergeant on September 1, 2019, and served as drill instructor, senior drill instructor, chief drill instructor, and uniformed readiness coordinator.
In December 2019, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, where he served as work center 440 supervisor, power plants division chief, production control SNCOIC, and quality assurance SNCOIC. He deployed with VMM-162 (REIN) on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable from July 2023 to April 2024, serving as squadron gunnery sergeant for VMM-162 and detachment SNCOIC for MALS-29. He was selected for promotion to first sergeant during this deployment.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as numerous unit and service awards.
