Colonel Scott A. Clippinger assumed duties as chief of staff, Marine Corps Logistics Command, in May 2025.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1991 and served as a security forces Marine aboard Naval Station Guam and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, Georgia. He earned his commission through the Platoon Leaders Course and completed Officer Candidate School in August 1998. Following graduation from The Basic School and the Logistics Operations Course, he was assigned to 2nd Marine Division, 8th Marine Regiment.
In 2006, he deployed with Regimental Combat Team 8 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later served as a military transition team advisor to the 1st Iraqi Army Brigade. He completed his tour in the operating forces as the logistics officer for 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion and as the S-4 Alpha for 10th Marine Regiment.
In 2009, he reported to Marine Barracks Washington, where he served as deputy director of distance learning for the Marine Corps Institute, and later as Headquarters Company commander from 2011 to 2012.
In 2012, he returned to the operating forces as logistics officer for the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, deploying to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of Operation New Dawn.
From 2015 to 2017, he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies and Operations, where he served as section head for Prepositioning Programs, advocating for the Marine Corps’ maritime and ashore prepositioning capabilities.
In 2017, he returned to Marine Barracks Washington as executive officer before assuming command of Combat Logistics Battalion 2 in 2019. He completed his battalion command tour in 2021.
In 2022, he reported to Marine Corps Logistics Command, where he served as the assistant chief of staff, G-3/5, until 2025.
Colonel Clippinger is a graduate of the National War College. His military education includes The Basic School, Advanced Logistics Operations Course, Joint Logistics and Humanitarian Operations Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Air War College (distance education), Expeditionary Warfare School, and the Penn State Marine Corps Logistics Education Program.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science in national security strategy from the National War College.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with four gold stars, and the Army Commendation Medal.
