Colonel Scott A. Clippinger assumed duties as Chief of Staff, Marine Corps Logistics Command, in May 2025.
Colonel Clippinger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1991, serving as a Security Forces Marine aboard Naval Station Guam and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, Georgia. He received his commission via the Platoon Leaders Course and completed Officer Candidate School in August 1998.
Following graduation from The Basic School and the Logistics Operations Course, he was assigned to 2d Marine Division, 8th Marine Regiment. From 2006 to 2007, he deployed with Regimental Combat Team-8 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later served as a Military Transition Team advisor to the 1st Iraqi Army Brigade. He completed his tour in the operating forces as the Logistics Officer for 2d Combat Engineer Battalion and as the S-4 Alpha for 10th Marine Regiment.
In 2009, Colonel Clippinger reported to Marine Barracks Washington, where he served as Deputy Director, Distance Learning, Marine Corps Institute, and later as Headquarters Company Commander from 2011 to 2012. He returned to the operating forces in 2012 as the Logistics Officer for the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit, deploying to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of Operation New Dawn.
From 2015 to 2017, he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies and Operations, where he served as the Section Head for Prepositioning Programs, advocating for the Marine Corps’ maritime and ashore prepositioning capabilities. He returned to Marine Barracks Washington in 2017 as the Executive Officer before assuming command of Combat Logistics Battalion 2 in 2019. He completed his battalion command tour in 2021.
Colonel Clippinger is a graduate of the National War College and served as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-3/5 at Marine Corps Logistics Command from 2022 to 2025.
His military education includes The Basic School, the Advanced Logistics Operations Course, the Joint Logistics and Humanitarian Operations Course, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Air War College (distance education), the Expeditionary Warfare School, and the Penn State Marine Corps Logistics Education Program.
Colonel Clippinger holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with four Gold Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
