Senior Enlisted Advisor, 2D Force Storage Battalion
GySgt. Eric A. Tanner

Gunnery Sergeant Tanner was born on May 4, 1992, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 6, 2009, and began Recruit Training on June 15, 2010, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class. Upon graduation, he attended Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California, where he earned the Military Occupation Specialty of 0311, Infantry Rifleman.

On December 1, 2010, Private First Class Tanner reported to Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington, D.C., and checked into Alpha Company, where he attended Silent Drill School. After Silent Drill School, he was reassigned to Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon, where he served in the billets of Team Leader, Ceremonial Marcher, Company Guidon Bearer, Firing Party, and NCOIC of the Dignified Transfer Team. He performed in various ceremonies in and around the national capital region, including evening and sunset parades, the White House, the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and Dover Air Force Base, and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In December 2012, Lance Corporal Tanner reported to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and checked into Golf Company. He immediately began a workup, serving as the Infantry Automatic Rifle Gunner and later as Team Leader. In August of 2013, he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan, where he gained valuable operational experience in the Indo-Pacific Region, attended Jungle Warfare Training, and worked closely with the Republic of Korea Marine Special Forces, teaching them urban warfare tactics. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal and was approved for a lateral move into the aviation field. In April of 2014, Corporal Tanner attended school aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 6124, Helicopter Power Plants Mechanic.

On June 2, 2014, Corporal Tanner reported to 3D Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Aviation Group-39, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron-39 aboard Camp Pendleton, California. He served as an intermediate-level power plant mechanic for the T-400 and T-700 engines on the Huey and Cobra. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was moved to the test cell facilities, where he tested the T-700 and T-58 engines for discrepancies before being sent to the Fleet Marine Force for use at home and abroad. In April of 2016, he attended Basic Recruiters School and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 8411, Recruiter.

On July 20, 2016, Sergeant Tanner reported to 12th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Fort Worth, Recruiting Sub-Station Abilene, Texas. He served as a production recruiter covering 12,000 square miles and 21 high schools, contributing to the recognition of Recruiting Sub-Station of the Year. He was Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and took over as the Station Commander of Recruiting Sub-Station Abilene, leading a team of 4 recruiters covering an area of 40,000 square miles and earning recognition as a superior achieving Recruiting-Sub Station.

On August 20, 2019, Staff Sergeant Tanner reported to 2D Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Aviation Group-29, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron-29 aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina. He served as the work center supervisor for 41R T700-GE-401/401C jet engines, 41N T64-GE-416A/419 jet engines, and 470 Oil Lab, and division chief. He was approved for a lateral move, and in April 2022, he attended the Key Management Infrastructure Course, earning the Military Occupational Specialty of 0681, Information Security Technician.

On November 15, 2022, Staff Sergeant Tanner reported to Command Element, II Marine Expeditionary Force, where he served as the Communication Security Manager for account 269500, one of the largest operational accounts in the Marine Corps. He advised and assisted the Staff Communication Security Management System Responsibility Officer and Local Elements concerning all matters relating to the Communication Security system and material, and was selected for promotion to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

On June 1, 2024, Gunnery Sergeant Tanner reported to Marine Force Storage Command, 2d Force Storage Battalion, where he is currently serving as the Primary Communication Security Account Manager and Command Senior Enlisted Advisor.

Gunnery Sergeant Tanner's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with three bronze stars in lieu of a fourth award .
