First Sergeant, 2D Force Storage Battalion
1st Sgt. Allen A. Janis

First Sergeant Janis joined the Marine Corps in September of 2005 and attended recruit training at Parris Island.  After completion of the School of Infantry he reported for duty with 2D LAR Camp Lejeune, NC.  During his tour with 2D LAR, he deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed twice to support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his last tour in Operation Enduring Freedom with 2D LAR he was promoted to Sergeant.

In April of 2012, Sergeant Janis transferred to the Marine Combat Instructor School. Upon graduation in June of 2012 Sergeant Janis was transferred to Advanced Infantry Training Battalion.  He served as a Combat Instructor for the Advanced Mortarman Course until April of 2015.

In May of 2015, Sergeant Janis was transferred, 1ST Battalion 2D Marines where he served as a Section Leader in 81s Platoon, Weapons Company. In August of 2015 he deployed in support of Unit Training Program 15-2 to Okinawa, Japan.  While in Japan he led a 60mm Mortar Section to victory in 3D Marine Division's Crew Served Weapons Super Squad Competition, he participated in Operation Blue Chromite, and deployed to Korea to participate in KMEP 15.2. During his time there he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In February of 2016 he redeployed to Camp Lejeune, NC with 1ST Battalion 2D Marines, where he was transferred to 2D Platoon, Charlie Company, where he served in the billet of Platoon Sergeant and deployed with Charlie Company as the Security Force for Task Force Southwest Rotation One in April of 2017, redeploying to Camp Lejeune in November 2017.

In January 2018 Staff Sergeant Janis was assigned to the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan as Chief Instructor for the Jungle Skills Courses, 3D Marine Division until August 2019. Staff Sergeant Janis was then assigned to III MEF Training and Exercises as Assistant Training Chief. During his Time there he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. He was also assigned to the Joint COVID Response Center for Okinawa as a Watch Chief from April 2020 to July 2020. Gunnery Sergeant Janis received an Associate’s Degree in General studies in January 2021.

In April 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Janis attended Marine Combat Instructor School East and was assigned to Marine Combat Training Battalion upon graduation in June of 2021. He served as Company Gunnery Sergeant with Hotel Company from then until September 2022 where he was transferred to H&S Company to serve as the Battalion Chief instructor.

On September 1, 2023 he was promoted to First Sergeant and transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion to serve as Company First Sergeant.

On November 8, 2023 1stSgt Janis reported to Marine Force Storage Command and posted as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for 2D FSB.

First Sergeant Janis' personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
