Deputy Commander, 1st Force Storage Battalion
James M. Maxwell

Mr. James Maxwell serves as the deputy commander, 1st Force Storage Battalion, Marine Force Storage Command, Marine Corps Logistics Command, Barstow, California. He assumed these duties in March 2021.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1996 at the age of 17 and completed recruit training before earning the military occupational specialty of 3043, supply administration and operations specialist. His first assignment was to Okinawa, Japan, with 3rd Supply Battalion.

During his 21-year Marine Corps career, he served with all major elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force, as well as Training and Education Command, Marine Forces Reserve, Marine Security Guard duty, and supporting establishments. His assignments included 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit; 3rd Materiel Readiness Battalion; School of Infantry–West; 6th Engineer Support Battalion; Marine Security Guard Detachments in Stockholm, Sweden, and Kigali, Rwanda; Marine Aircraft Group 16; 11th Marine Regiment; Regimental Combat Team 5, 1st Marine Division; and the Field Supply and Maintenance Analysis Office–West. He retired from active duty in 2017 at the rank of master sergeant.

Following retirement, he joined the Internal Controls and Audit Readiness Team, Headquarters Marine Corps, where he supported efforts to improve the Corps’ audit posture.

Mr. Maxwell holds a Master of Science degree from National University.
