2021 Continuous Process Improvement Awards Winners

 In an ongoing effort to recognize outstanding performance improvement and innovative practices demonstrated by employees from across the command, Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) leadership held the 2021 Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) Excellence Awards ceremony on Feb. 17.  Included in the ceremony were the winners and finalist selected for the individual and team categories.

The CPI Individual Excellence Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding performance improvement and/or innovative practices within MARCORLOGCOM. Award nominees are individuals who promote a systematic approach for enhancing mission capability, improving operational performance, and achieving sustained results - while maximizing efficiency. The team award is given to a project team demonstrating improvements and/or implementing innovative ideas or approaches in cost and manpower savings/cost avoidance to improve effectiveness/efficiency, operational readiness, and replication of innovation.

 

2021 CPI Individual Excellence Award winner, Cedric Solomon

Cedric Solomon, logistical management specialist was awarded for his work on the Temporary Storage Program (TSP) Letter of Requirement (LOR) process. Solomon’s work included a new process tool establishing a standard process for managing TSP LORs and the consolidation of TSP processes into a single system, reducing shipment delays and lowering storage expenses. The newly established TSP LOR process is forecasted to help save $1.5M during the first year of implementation and $3M in the years to follow.

2021 CPI Project Team Excellence Award winners, Bonnie Henderson and Jason Terry

Bonnie Henderson, supervisory maintenance advocate specialist, and Jason Terry, management and program analyst, co-lead the MARCORLOGCOM Start of Work Meeting Standardization Project. The project focused on creating standards, improving communication, and clarification of roles and responsibilities for the Material Management Center and Weapons Systems Management Center Start of Work meetings. The team’s efforts resulted in a 20 percent reduction in the number of resources used during the Start of Work process.

In addition to the individual and team winners, several finalists were also recognized for their outstanding efforts.

Wendy Johnson, inventory manager was awarded for her role in the 5S Improvement of the Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC) Supply Space. Johnson’s efforts improved the overall process and reduced supply purchase redundancy, resulting in manpower and monetary savings, and a more organized and easily accessible supply space with a reduced footprint.

Randy Williams, logistics management specialist was recognized for both the team and individual category awards for his work on the SCMC Supply Management Readiness Review (SMRR) database shipping documents Input Time Decrease Project 1.  The project established a new standardization process with the potential to save up to 25 hours a week for action officers who routinely provide tracking data to deployed military units worldwide. Additional benefits of William’s project will be from increased efficiencies and cost savings through improved aaccess to real-time data provided.

Torrey Calhoun, management analyst and team lead for the Fund Manager Standard Processes Project, was recognized as a team award finalist. Calhoun’s team established standard processes and desktop procedures for tasks fund managers to complete on a daily basis. Consolidation of the procedures included a simplified and easy-to-use desktop procedure, combined with in-person or virtual training is estimated to reduce cost by 29k per year.
