A new storage battalion that will help Marine Corps Logistics Command manage equipment and supplies was activated during a ceremony, June 14, at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia.

The new unit, 2nd Marine Force Storage Battalion, reports to Marine Force Storage Command, which was activated in April.

Col. Kipp Wahlgren, commanding officer, MFSC said the secretary of the Navy approved the activation of MFSC, and 1st and 2nd Marine Force Storage Battalions in June 2018.

1st MFSB, located in Barstow, California was activated June 26.

“MFSC holds nearly a quarter of the Marine Corps inventory of military equipment,” added Wahlgren.  “Activating 2d MFSB makes an immediate impact, we immediately improve inventory control, readiness of equipment and the care of supplies in storage here in Albany.”

Several hundred Marines, civilian-Marines, family and friends attended the ceremony.

Lt. Col. Fred Glencamp, commanding officer, 2nd MFSB, uncased the unit colors in front of Marines and civilian-Marines attending the ceremony.

2nd MFSB’s mission is to provide warehousing, care of supplies in storage, and limited field level maintenance of Marine Corps ground equipment and associated collateral material held at MCLB Albany.

Glencamp said that the decision to activate the battalion is an indicator of their importance to the Marine Corps.

“We exist to support the operating forces,” said Glencamp.  “Activating 2nd MFSB provides the accountability and oversight to ensure that the military equipment we store is ready when the Corps needs it.”

Glencamp most recently served as the Head, Materiel Management Branch, Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia prior to his selection to command 2nd MFSB.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Glencamp charged the Marines of his new battalion saying, “Our job is to get the right equipment, to the right place at the right time.  I promise to you my best effort, and expect your best effort too.”
