Lt. Col. Joseph W. Ray

Lieutenant Colonel Ray grew up in Pennsylvania, and graduated from Edinboro University of PA in 1992 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business.  Upon graduation he moved to central Florida and enlisted in 1994.

He reported to 1st Supply Battalion in February 1995.  In Spring 1995, Lance Corporal Ray deployed to Qatar for INDIGO DESERT 1995.  In May 1997 he reported to Headquarter Battalion, 3D Marine Division, Okinawa Japan.  While with 3D Marine Division, Corporal Ray submitted for Enlisted Commissioning Program.  In June 1998 reported to Edson Range, Camp Pendleton at which time he was notified of his selection for Officer Candidate School (OCS).  Sergeant Ray reported to OCS January 1999 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in April of 1999.

Following The Basic School and Supply Officers Course in May of 2000, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, Iwakuni Japan where he served as the Supply Officer and Adjutant. 

In June of 2003, First Lieutenant Ray was transferred to Combat Assault Battalion, 3D Marine Division, Camp Schwab Okinawa for duty as the Supply Officer.  During this tour Captain Ray also had periods with additional duties as Headquarters Company Commander and Battalion Executive Officer. 

In June of 2006 he was transferred to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany Georgia for duty as the Base S-4 Officer.  Following a civilian conversion in June 2008, Captain Ray received Permanent Change of Assignment (PCA) orders to Marine Corps Logistics Command (MCLC) for duty in the Logistics Operations Center, Secure Operations Officer.  In December 2008, Major Ray deployed to Afghanistan as Commanding Officer MCLC (FWD) Afghanistan.  

In July of 2010, Major Ray reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff College with follow-on orders in June of 2011 to United States Central Command (CENTCOM), MacDill Airforce Base, Tampa Florida. As a member of the Joint 3 – Operations - Central Asia States, Arabian Peninsula, Levant (CAL) Branch he monitored operations in all 20 nations within the Area of Operations (AOR).  As a core member of the Crisis Response Team (CAT) he worked 17 formal CATs to include Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, and the AOR CAT during Benghazi.  Also, he was the J3 subject matter expert on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and branch Executive Officer.

After departing CENTCOM in June 2014, Major Ray reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 for duty as the Battalion Executive Officer.  In January 2015, Major Ray assumed the duties of Battalion Officer-In-Charge as the Commanding Officer deployed with 15% of the unit.  In October 2015 he relinquished his authority to the new Battalion Commander and re-assumed duties as the Executive Officer.  In May 2016 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and retained within the Battalion to become the Officer-In-Charge of 85% of the Battalion when the Commanding Officer deployed in October 2016.

After 3 years at CLB-7, Lieutenant Colonel Ray received PCA orders to Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group as the director and instructor for Expeditionary Logistics providing pre-deployment training to Marine units.  During this assignment Lieutenant Colonel Ray was assigned to an Individual Augment with USCENTCOM J3-Manpower as lead for Coalition Joint Manning in Iraq and Syria.

Upon his return from the IA in July 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Ray assumed the duties as Operations Officer Marine Corps Air ground Combat Center, 29 Palms CA.  In July 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Ray executed orders to be the Executive Officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, GA.  Lieutenant Colonel Ray assumed his current duties as the Executive Officer for Marine Force Storage Command, Marine Corps Logistics Command in March 2022.
