First Sergeant, 2D Force Storage Battalion
First Sergeant Lincoln D. Hughes

 First Sergeant (1stSgt) Hughes reported to Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, South Carolina in June 2002 and Graduated in September 2002.  1stSgt Hughes then reported to School of Infantry (SOI) East, Camp Geiger, North Carolina and graduated in December 2002 as an 0311 Rifleman.  Upon completion of SOI, 1stSgt Hughes reported to 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines (V34), for duty with Lima Company at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. 


     From February to May 2003 1stSgt Hughes deployed with V34 to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. During this combat deployment 1stSgt Hughes served as a Squad Automatic Rifleman and made the march to Baghdad. In December 2003 1stSgt Hughes deployed with V34 to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. From this location 1stSgt Hughes deployed again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom-2 from February to July 2004. During this combat deployment 1stSgt Hughes served as a Infantry Fire Team Leader and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  Shortly after this deployment 1stSgt Hughes was assigned duties as a Infantry Squad Leader. 1stSgt Hughes deployed again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 4-6 from January to July 2005 with V34. When not deployed 1stSgt Hughes served as a Team Leader and Squad Leader for multiple training evolutions in Twentynine Palms, Bridgeport, CA and many other locations before leaving V34 in January of 2006.


     In January of 2006 1stSgt Hughes reported to Weapons Field Training Battalion aboard MCRD PI, South Carolina. Shortly after arriving he was promoted the rank of Corporal and attended Corporals Course aboard MCAS Beaufort SC. 1stSgt Hughes served as a Combat Marksmanship Instructor before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2007, subsequently attending Advanced Infantryman Course and graduating as a Distinguished Graduate. From July to November 2008 1stSgt Hughes graduated Combat Marksmanship Trainer course as Honor Graduate and served as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor until his transfer.


     In November 2008 1stSgt Hughes reported to Company E, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines (V22), Camp Lejeune, NC for duty as a Squad Leader. From October 2009 to May 2010 1stSgt Hughes deployed to Helmand Province Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March 2011 he deployed with V22 as part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Unified Protector. In January 2013 1stSgt Hughes was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He subsequently attended Infantry Unit Leaders Course and Career Course. While assigned to Company E, 1stSgt Hughes served in the billets of Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander.  1stSgt Hughes was subsequently selected for duty as a Combat Instructor.


     In June of 2013 1stSgt Hughes reported to Marine Combat Instructors School, Camp Geiger, NC, graduating in September 2013. Upon graduation 1stSgt Hughes was assigned to the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion where he served as the Chief Instructor for the Enhanced Combat Hunter Leaders Course. In March 2014 1stSgt Hughes was assigned as the Course Chief for the Combat Hunter Program. In August 2014 1stSgt Hughes was assigned as a Combat Instructor for the Infantry Small Unit Leaders Course. Shortly after being assigned 1stSgt Hughes assumed the duties as Chief Instructor for Infantry Small Unit Leaders Course. 1stSgt Hughes was selected to attend Infantry Officers Course graduating in 2015.


     In 2016 1stSgt Hughes reported to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines (V38), serving as a Platoon Sergeant. In 2017 1stSgt Hughes deployed with V38 to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Forward Deployed Battalion East. From this location 1stSgt Hughes designed and led platoon to company size exercises in Fuji, Tinian, and Guam. Additionally embarking his platoon on a French Naval Training Vessel to conduct bilateral raids. 1stSgt Hughes was selected to serve as the the Company First Sergeant (acting) and redeployed the company.
     In July 2018 1stSgt Hughes reported to 1st Tank Battalion serving as Scout Platoon Sergeant, Scout Platoon Commander, TOW Anti-Tank Platoon Sergeant, and H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant. From June 2020 to January 2021 1stSgt Hughes Deployed as an individual augment in support of the CJTF-OIR as the J3 Ops Chief aboard Union Baghdad Iraq. 


     In February 2021 1stSgt Hughes reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion for duty as a Company First Sergeant. A few months later deploying Blackfoot Company to Okinawa Japan in support of the unit deployment program and the 31st MEU. Upon return First Sergeant Hughes received orders to Marine Force Storage Command where he currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Advisor at 2d Marine Force Storage Battalion.


     First Sergeant Hughes's personal decorations include: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V” (5th Award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star (2nd Award), Combat Action Ribbon with gold star (2nd Award), Good Conduct Medal, and an Associate of Arts Degree.
